Description and Adaptation
Burrowing owls are covered in brown spotted feathers and have long legs compared to other owls or birds. They weigh approximately 9 ounces. Their long legs give them height which means they can look for danger across the prairie.
Habitats, Landforms and Climate
Burrowing owls live in underground burrows which they dig themselves or take over. The Landforms in interior plains are low mountains and prairie grass. the weather and climate is extreme with little precipitation. Summers are short and hot while winters are long and cold.
Relationship with Other Species
Burrowing owls are carnivores, which means they eat: dung beetles, mice, moles, grasshoppers, amphibians, and birds. Burrowing owls use their scat to attract dung beetles which they eat. They have several predators such as weasels, foxes and hawks which all prey on them.
