Description and Adaptation

The Swift Foxes weight is approximately 4-6 lb. Swift foxes are called swift foxes because of their speediness and they are able to run up to 30mph. They use their speed to escape predators, especially coyotes. Swift foxes back are grey and its side is yellowish buff. Each side of its muzzle has a distinctive black spot and its bushy tail has a black tip. Swift foxes need and escape route so they have a burrow underground which can be 13ft deep. They only come out to hunt at night which means they are nocturnal. Swift fox eats almost any small rodent which makes him adaptable to a variety of places.

Habitats, Landforms and Climate

Swift foxes are found in the foothill region and prairies of Alberta.  Their prairie habitat allows them to see predators from a distance which give them time to escape to their burrows. The landforms in this region are low mountains and prairie grass. Swift fox tend to live around the prairie part of interior plains. Low mountains are in south west of this region. Swift foxes live in Grasslands national park which is located in the south of Saskatchewan. The interior plains has long cold winters and short hot summers. The weather in interior plains is extreme with a small amount of precipitation.

Relationship with Other Species

Swift fox is a 80 percent carnivore so eats birds, rabbits and other small rodents but sometimes they eat grass or berries. Swift fox are predators to small rodents but they have a predator which is a coyote.
